Visual Story

Description

This lovely curled 'do has the locks left out to sit on the shoulders showing off the soft waves all over that gives this style plenty of body and volume. The shape of this 'do is perfect to complement a triangular face shape and needs product for hold and shine. The side swept bangs are ideal for camouflaging a wide foreheads and will need regular trims to hold their shape.

Our model turns heads here with a layered medium length 'do that is full of texture and movement thanks to the bouncy curls throughout. She has a triangular face shape that looks best in styles with some softness to them, like this one. The layered cut and side-swept fringe is ideal for contouring her face shape, adding volume and body around her dainty chin area and minimizing the appearance of her high forehead (which is the typical look of triangular face shapes). The length is just right for her fine hair type too, which looks best in shoulder length styles that have lots of layering and movement, especially around the neck.

Our model has a cool complexion and green eyes, both of which look best in blonde, copper and dark red shades, however pink is also on this color spectrum and it suits her perfectly as seen here. This hair color has a blonde base tone with a bubble gum pink color applied on top. Overall, this color combo shows off our model's skin tone nicely and brings out her green eyes. It also gives her hair a glossy, healthy looking finish. If you suit red and copper tones as well, you may want to change it up and give pink a try! As with all colors on the red spectrum, pink tends to fade quite fast compared to other colors and will need regular touch ups to maintain this look.

Styling Steps

Apply styling mousse to damp hair, using your palm as a measuring guide, and evenly distribute it along the hair shaft. Styling mousse will add hold and can help achieve better results.

Using the corner of your comb and standing in front of a mirror find the middle of your right eye and then drag the comb straight up slowly until you reach your hairline and then continue back in a straight manner to achieve an even right part. A side part is great for longer face shapes because it creates the illusion of width.

A large radial brush is usually used on long straight hair types or to smooth out wavy or curly hair textures. When selecting a radial brush, always use one with a pure bristle as this will not tear or damage the hair.

Starting at the nape/back of the hair, place your brush on top of the section and blow-dryer down starting from the roots and using tension as you go. Next, place the blow-dryer underneath the hair and continue to blow-dry the ends out. Make sure to follow the brush with the blow-dryer in an outwards direction. If you like fuller flicks, hold the ends out and roll them up into the brush and apply the heat for longer.

To blow-dry the sides, take out your first sections from the front and clip the rest of the hair up. Place your brush on top of the section, and starting from the roots, blow-dry down using tension as you go. Next, place the blow-dryer underneath the hair and continue to blow-dry the ends out. Continue this step until the hair is dry.

To blow-dry the crown/top sections, take a section of hair no bigger than the diameter of the brush and blow-dry the hair placing the brush under the section of hair. With your blow-dryer in front of the brush, follow the brush in an upwards direction at the roots and an outwards position at the ends for volume and softness. Continue until the section is dry.

To blow-dry your bangs to the side, clip the back and side sections up, leaving just your bangs out. Place your brush beneath your bangs, holding your hair to the side and remembering to hold the tension between your hair and brush. With your blow-dryer on a low setting, apply heat by starting at the roots and make sure to stretch your hair out to the ends. Repeat until your hair is dry.

A large hot roller is used to give your hair a larger curl and to add lots of body.

Take a section of hair no wider than the diameter of the hot roller and comb it through to ensure there are no knots. Place the roller at the ends of the section of hair, being sure to smooth the ends under, and then twist the roller vertically, making sure to roll it backwards, along the hair shaft to the roots and secure it with a pin or clip. Keep the rollers in your hair until they cool.

Take your front bang section and roll it up into your hot roller in a forward direction so that the hair curls under. Continue applying hot rollers along the top of your head in the opposite direction, going backwards. Keep the rollers in your hair until they cool.

Take the entire back section of your hair, and then starting from the crown, take a smaller section of hair no wider than the diameter of the hot roller and comb it through to ensure there are no knots. Place the roller at the ends of the section of hair, being sure to smooth the ends under, and then twist the roller down the hair shaft until it meets your head and then secure it in place with a pin or clip. Repeat this step until you have reached the nape of your neck and the entire back section of your hair is completed. Keep the rollers in your hair until they cool.

Apply your moulding cream to the ends of your hair and then lightly pinch and scrunch the hair before allowing your moulding cream to set.

Apply a small amount of moulding cream to your fingertips and then lightly piece and pinch the ends of your hair.

Apply moulding cream to your fingertips then gently rake through your bangs, sweeping the hair to the left as you go. Be careful not to use too much product as it can become sticky and clumpy.

To finish, apply a minimal amount of hairspray from an arms length distance to the top, sides and back. Take care not to use too much or you will end up with a white, flaky residue which looks like dandruff.
